Background

Following the successful delivery of Progression Matrix in Phase 1 Aimhigher West Yorkshire has agreed to Phase 2 to enhance the Matrix as a web-based product and to drill down into the 15 area of learning. This Phase 2 development to the Matrix enables Higher Education (HE), Further Education (FE), Careers, Schools, Young people and their Parents and or Guardians and Employers to access information in respect of progression from academic, vocational and occupational learning routes to HE. 

In respect of the main target groups above the key objectives of the learning pathways, is to provide up to date and accurate information, to signpost the target group or individuals to the options and choices available from the start of post 16 learning through to HE qualifications.  

Outline

The template for the progression learning matrix will contains 15 areas of Learning as determined by the LSC, there is 88 sub groups at 6 levels across 3 pathway areas. The matrix will have 5 distinct elements as follows.

  • Academic Qualifications
  • Vocational Qualifications
  • WB Occupational (Apprenticeships)
  • Career opps
  • HE Qualifications

Each of the 5 elements is populated with detailed information in respect of each field.

  • Further Education & Work Based Learning qualifications will show progress to HE qualifications and to signpost to individual qualifications and intuitions in West Yorkshire.
  • A web-based Matrix that ensures everyone has access to the Matrix, it will also enable any updates to be completed in one stage, this also ensures, that people are looking at the most up to date version of the Matrix.
  • Case studies will be released and included in the Matrix

JCA has recent experience in sub contract arrangements for workforce development activities with Business Link South Yorkshire, Talent Services and Training Education Services.

JCA has successfully completed Phase 1 Progression Matrix sub contract in 2005, including data research and information gathering and data validation.

Currently JCA is working on an associate basis with YHAL and has a portfolio of SME clients.

JCA worked alongside Shaun Barrett (Terabyte) and David Toulcher (WYLP) to ensure the successful programme management and delivery of the project.  In carrying out this work existing contacts within colleges and work based providers were used alongside others including other West Yorkshire LEA, FE and HE colleges and the Aimhigher Steering Group.
